Career Highlights: Stone will make her Olympic debut in London after failing to earn a spot on the team that competed in Beijing. She broke her leg during a snowball fight in Harvard Square a year after the 2008 Games, but has come back stronger than ever. Stone earned an Olympic spot after finishing third in single sculls at the final qualification regatta in May. The native of Newton, Mass., is a student at Tufts' School of Medicine and a 2007 graduate of Princeton. She took 11th in singles sculls at the 2011 world championships. Stone will become the second member of her family to qualify for the Olympics: mother Lisa finished seventh in the coxed quadruple sculls at the 1976 Montreal Games, and then went on to be the head coach at Radcliffe. Stone’s father, Gregg, who has coached teams at Harvard, missed qualifying for those Montreal Games in single sculls, then was denied a chance to compete four years later when the U.S. boycotted Moscow. Stone, who also goes by “Gevvie,” used to compete in eights and fours, but competing in singles has given her the flexibility to train and attend school in Boston apart from the U.S. team in Princeton, N.J.
