Scott Weltz
Sport: Swimming
Nation: United States of America
DOB: March 19, 1987
Hometown: San Jose, CA
Career Highlights: Weltz pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the Olympic trials by winning the 200 meter breaststroke. He beat out breaststroke
heavyweights Brendan Hansen and Eric Shanteau to clinch his first Olympic appearance. "My whole body was kind of tingling
and I was like, `I'm feeling it and something is different, this is the time,'" said Weltz, who also finished fourth in the
100 breast at the trials. "I was smiling behind the blocks, I wasn't nervous. I felt great going into it." Weltz qualified
for the 2008 Olympic trials - racing against Michael Phelps in two events - but his best finish was 30th in the 400 individual
medley. He was named 2009 and 2010 Big West Conference Male Athlete of the Year while swimming for UC Davis, preceded by winning
the 2006 Big West Freshman of the Year.
