Career Highlights: McLean will participate in his first Olympics - swimming on the 800 meter freestyle relay team - after finishing fifth in the 200 meters at the U.S. Olympic Trials. McLean failed to qualify for the 2008 Games after finishing ninth at the trials in the 400 freestyle, 17th in the 200 free and 62nd in the 100 free. McLean, the ACC swimmer of the year in 2008-09 and 2011, finished his career at Virginia in 2011 by winning the NCAA title in the 500 freestyle relay. Three years earlier he finished fourth in that event and the 800 freestyle relay at the NCAA championships. While swimming for the Cavaliers, McLean was named an All-American 15 times and added 17 ACC championships to his impressive resume. At last year’s World University Games, McLean took gold in the 200 freestyle and the 800 freestyle relay.
