Esther Lofgren
Sport: Rowing
Nation: United States of America
DOB: February 28, 1985
Hometown: Newport Beach, CA
Career Highlights: Lofgren will make her Olympic debut four years after being the last one cut from the eight crew that went on to win gold in
Beijing and earn distinction as the world rowing female crew of the year. Lofgren will join Meghan Musnicki and Taylor Ritzel
as the newcomers on this crew. Lofgren, though, brings plenty of international experience, having won gold in the eight at
the last two world championships and helping the U.S. set a world record (5:54.17) in that event earlier this year. While
at Radcliffe, Lofgren helped the team finish 11th in the varsity eight at the 2007 NCAA championships. A former high school
volleyball player, Lofgren finished first in quadruple sculls at the 2007 U-23 worlds and in the eight at the 2006 U-23 worlds.
Along with winning Olympic gold, Lofgren would like to finish an Ironman triathlon and run a sub-3-hour marathon. Lofgren’s
parents Christine and Karl were also top U.S. rowers.
