Jamie NietoSport: Track and Field

Nation: United States of America

DOB: November 2, 1976

Hometown: Chula Vista, CA

Career Highlights: Nieto finished first in the high jump at the U.S. trials, assuring his return to the Olympics after missing out on the Beijing Games four years ago. He originally burst onto the scene with an outdoor national championship in 2003, and then nearly jumped onto the podium one year later in Athens, posting a personal-best leap of 7 feet, 8 inches to finish fourth. The former Eastern Michigan University standout has posted consistently solid performances since then, including a plethora of top-five finishes at both indoor and outdoor nationals. Nieto finished second at the 2008 Olympic trials, but didn't get a spot in Beijing because he hadn't cleared the Olympic “A” standard that year. He seemed somewhat surprised to accomplish that feat in 2012 at the age of 35. “I didn't see this coming, but I had a good feeling,” Nieto said. “I just kept thinking I have to keep jumping high.” In addition to being an athlete, Nieto is an actor with several film credits to his name, including a role playing the late baseball star Roberto Clemente.
