Nick Delpopolo
Sport: Judo
Nation: United States of America
DOB: February 8, 1989
Hometown: Westfield, NJ
Career Highlights: While Delpopolo was the fifth and final member to be added to the U.S. national team, it was surely well worth the wait. Joining
fellow Americans Kayla Harrison, Marti Malloy, Travis Stevens and Kyle Vashkulat at the 2012 Games, Delpopolo punched his
ticket to London by defeating Michael Eldred in a best-of-three matchup. While Delpopolo and Eldred qualified for the Olympics,
countries cannot send more than one athlete per weight division. Ranked No. 99 in the world in 2009, Delpopolo had climbed
to No. 13 as of May 19 - as well as No. 1 in the U.S. - in the men’s -73kg division. Delpopolo finished fifth at both the
2012 Grand Slam Tournoi de Paris and Grand Prix Dusseldorf before most recently winning bronze at the Pan American championships.
Born in Niksic, Montenegro, Delpopolo has won seven of 11 matches this year and will be making his first appearance at the
Olympics.
