Career Highlights: Franklin will be busy at her first Olympics as she becomes the first U.S. woman to compete in seven events. The 17-year-old
broke an American record in the 100m backstroke at the U.S. Olympic trials and will compete in that event in London, along
with the 200m backstroke, the 100 and 200 freestyle, the 4x100 and 4x200 freestyle relays and 4x100 medley relay. Despite
her age, Franklin holds the world record in the 200 backstroke and is part of the world-record team in the 4x100 medley relay.
She also holds the American record in the 200 backstroke. Franklin attempted to qualify for the 2008 Games at the trials when
she was only 13, but did not finish better than 37th in any event. Franklin, who has size 13 feet, holds dual citizenship
in the U.S. and Canada, where both of her parents hail from.
