Margot Shumway
Sport: Rowing
Nation: United States of America
DOB: August 2, 1979
Hometown: Westlake, OH
Career Highlights: Shumway is ready for her second Olympic appearance, making a London encore to a fifth-place finish in the quadruple sculls
at the Beijing Games four years ago. This time around, she will compete in double sculls with Sarah Trowbridge, who also rows
for the Potomac Boat Club in Washington D.C. The pair come off a win at the final Olympic qualification regatta in May - a
race they competed in only because the two U.S. Training Center boats that defeated them during an April national regatta
declined to participate. Shumway, who started rowing in 2001 while at Ohio State, earned a degree in Comparative Cultural
Studies. A gold-medal winner in the single sculls at the 2011 Pan American Games, Shumway took fifth in the quadruple sculls
at the 2010 world championships. One year earlier, she finished 13th in single sculls at the worlds. However, Shumway won
single sculls at the 2009 world trials, and considers that her most memorable athletic achievement.
