Kyle AlcornSport: Track and Field

Nation: United States of America

DOB: March 18, 1985

Hometown: Mesa, AZ

Career Highlights: Alcorn has appeared on track for an Olympic berth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase since he was the U.S. junior champion in the event eight years ago, and that goal was finally fulfilled with a late surge to a third-place finish at the Olympic trials. "I usually rely on my kick pretty heavily, but I had to give it all I had to hold on to third place," Alcorn said. "We've been training for many, many years to get to the training and mileage we have." Alcorn's journey has taken him from his native California to the University of Oregon and eventually Arizona State. After transferring, he won an NCAA individual championship in the steeplechase for the Sun Devils in 2008. The self-coached Alcorn earned the chance to represent the United States at the 2009 world championships, but he didn't finish in the opening round and will be aiming for a better showing in London.
