A.G. Kruger

A.G. KrugerSport: Track and Field

Nation: United States of America

DOB: February 18, 1979

Hometown: Ashland, OH

Career Highlights: A two-time Olympian, Kruger is one of the most successful U.S. hammer throwers in the history of the sport, though that hasn’t quite translated to the biggest stage. Kruger took four straight USA Outdoor titles from 2006-09 and seven titles in the weight throw at the U.S. indoors, most recently winning in 2012. He finished second in the 2004 U.S. Olympic trials before not qualifying for the finals in Athens, then won the 2008 trials before finishing 14th in Group B qualifying at the Beijing Games. With that in mind, perhaps his third-place finish at the 2012 trials will be a precursor for a more successful third trip to the Olympics. So will keeping the proper mental edge. “(In Eugene) I could feel myself. I was a little bit all over,'' Kruger said after the trials. “Thinking too much, I think.'' Along with his own experience, Kruger has a mentor who knows a thing or two about competing in the Olympics. Coach Jud Logan was a four-time Olympian who recruited Kruger to the prestigious Ashland Elite Club after college. Kruger calls Logan “the master of getting you ready to go,” and in London, he’ll hope that’s to the medal stand.
