Career Highlights: Betts is a first-time Olympian for the United States after defeating fellow Minnesota Storm club teammate Jordan Holm at the Olympic trials. A native of St. Michael, Minn., and a graduate of Northern Michigan, Betts resides in Colorado Springs, Colo., at the U.S Olympic Training Center. He was a member of the 2009 world championship team and finished 32nd at 84 kg. This was his second attempt at qualifying for the Olympics - he finished fourth four years ago. Since then, he’s been a part of the team at the 2009 worlds and finished third and second, respectively, in tryouts for the world championship team the last two years. Betts has had a great start to 2012, winning the Pan American Championships and the Dave Schulz Memorial International. He finished third in 2010 at the Dave Schulz Memorial International and second at the 2008 Pan American Championships. He studied digital cinema in college and has his own web site devoted to motion design. Betts - who won a state championship his senior year at St. Michael Albertville High School - has one brother and one sister. He enjoys computers and video editing and in college was a part of the U.S. Olympic Education Center program.
