Career Highlights: Rooney will be making his second go-round with the U.S. squad after claiming a gold in Beijing in 2008. The outside hitter
missed most of the 2011 international season with a shoulder injury but has bounced back to be a contributor on the World
League team that reached the finals before losing to Poland in its Olympic tune-up and finished seventh among all players
in the final round with a 43.28 percent success rate on spiking. He saw spot duty in the 2011 FIVB World Cup, totaling 31
points in nine sets. At the 2008 Games, Rooney mainly appeared as a reserve but is also one of the team’s better servers.
Prior to joining the U.S. national program, Rooney tried his hand at beach volleyball on the AVP tour in 2004, making three
quarterfinal appearances. At the club level, he has played in Russia and South Korea before joining Italy’s Acqua Paradiso
Monza Brianza in 2010.
