Career Highlights: At 6-foot-9 and with the nickname "El Grande," Scott is known as the tallest world-class pole vaulter in history. He's been on the U.S. vaulting scene for nearly a decade, but his recent results are starting to get some attention on their own. Since narrowly missing the Olympics four years ago, Scott has taken some steps forward, clearing an outdoor personal-best of 5.75 meters (just shy of 19 feet), winning the U.S. indoor title and earning a spot at the world championships - all in 2009. Last year, he reached the finals at the worlds and was the top American, finishing ninth. That surely gave him some momentum coming into 2012, and he followed through with a vault of 5.60 meters (18 feet, 4 1/2 inches) at the U.S. trials to claim second place and his first Olympic berth. Scott was a tight end on the football team when he arrived at Allegheny College, but he soon switched his focus to pole vaulting. He's heading back to England nine years after earning a trip there for the indoor worlds in 2003, when he was the U.S. indoor runner-up while still an undergraduate.
