Davis Tarwater
Sport: Swimming
Nation: United States of America
DOB: March 24, 1984
Hometown: Knoxville, TN
Career Highlights: Tarwater just missed qualifying for the Beijing Games, finishing third in the 200 meter butterfly behind Michael Phelps and
Gil Stovall at the 2008 U.S. Olympic trials. This year, thanks to Phelps, Tarwater will make his Olympic debut. Phelps withdrawing
from the 200 freestyle opened a spot for Tarwater, who will compete in the 800 freestyle relay. He had placed seventh in the
200 freestyle at this year’s U.S. trials, too low a finish to automatically qualify for the Games. The native of Knoxville,
Tenn., finished fourth in the 200 butterfly at the 2005 world championships and set the American short course record in the
200 butterfly in 2011. The 2006 Michigan graduate won the 200 butterfly NCAA title as a senior and was a 13-time All-American
during his time in Ann Arbor. Since the 2008 Games, Tarwater has coached and earned a graduate degree from Oxford in Latin
American Studies. He is the nephew of Richmond Flowers II, a former track star and NFL safety.
