Career Highlights: Dlagnev cemented his spot as the top heavyweight freestyle wrestler in the U.S. by qualifying for his first Olympic team.
Dlagnev, who didn’t take up wrestling until high school, followed titles at this year's Cerro Pelado International and Pan
American Championships by winning at the trials. That followed a win at the 2011 Pan American Games and a fifth-place finish
at the world championships, his second appearance at the worlds. Dlagnev was the world bronze medalist in 2009. He won the
Pan American Championship and World Cup in 2010 and the World University Championships in 2008. Dlagnev currently resides
in Columbus, Ohio, and went to college at Nebraska-Kearney, where he led the school to its first Division II team title in
2008. He also won individual Division II national championships in 2007 and 2008 and was runner-up in 2006. Dlagnev and his
family moved from Bulgaria to the United States when he was 4 years old. He’s been married to wife Kirsten for two years.
