Maurice Mitchell
Sport: Track and Field
Nation: United States of America
DOB: December 22, 1989
Hometown: Kansas City, MO
Career Highlights: The nation's best collegiate 200-meter runner the last two years at Florida State, Mitchell qualified for London by virtue
of his second-place finish at the U.S. Olympic trials, where his time of 20.14 seconds was just 0.01 off his personal best.
Mitchell came out of high school as one of the top track recruits in the country and lived up to the hype, finishing his college
career with back-to-back NCAA outdoor titles in the 200 in 2011 and '12 - each by a relatively comfortable margin. In 2011,
he ran a wind-aided 19.99 and also helped the Seminoles win an NCAA championship in the 4x100 meter relay. The competition,
of course, will be a bit tougher at the Olympics, where he may see Usain Bolt in the next lane. "For me, it's a surprise,
but I'm healthy and hungry, and I'm going to go out there and run to the best of my ability," Mitchell said. He's also an
accomplished 100-meter runner, having taken third place at NCAAs each of the last two years and running 10 seconds flat in
2011.
