Career Highlights: Growing up in the heart of Virginia horse country, Coleman showed promise for racing at a young age. He began his career in the hunt field with his first pony, Dutch. His first major success in eventing came in 2001 when he won the North American Young Rider Championships, and by 2002, Coleman was eighth in the CCI3* at Fair Hill with Second Hope. In the spring of 2003, Coleman won the under-25 championship at Bramham in England, one of few Americans to do so. He then decided to turn his focus to school, but even while graduating from the University of Virginia with a degree in history, he was still able to continue his success at the upper levels. Coleman was named the USEA Young Rider of the year in 2004, and while riding Second Hope, he was the second-highest placed American at Luhmuhlen CCI4*, finishing in 16th place in 2005. Coleman will be riding on Jim Wildasin's Twizzel in the Olympics, a horse he has much experience with. He enjoyed one of his most successful years in 2008 while riding Twizzel, as the pair finished third in three events and won the CIC3* at Plantation Field. In 2010, Coleman found himself in the winner’s circle again at the CCI3* level, this time with Nevada Bay at Bromont. He started 2012 with a fifth-place finish with Twizzel at the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event presented by Bridgestone CCI4*. Coleman trains and runs a successful business out of his parents' Tivoli Farm and also enjoys riding jumpers.
