Jessica Cosby
Sport: Track and Field
Nation: United States of America
DOB: May 31, 1982
Hometown: Mission Hills, CA
Career Highlights: Cosby will participate in her second straight Olympics after securing a third-place finish at June's U.S. trials in the hammer
with a throw of 70.77 meters. This time around, she'll be looking for a much better performance on the Olympic stage. Cosby
was the trials champion in 2008, but had no mark in the qualifying round at the Beijing Games. One year later, she was given
a two-year drug suspension after failing a random test shortly following a seventh-place finish at the world championships.
An arbitration panel reduced the ban to four months, however, after Cosby said she took a "water pill" after the worlds because
she had trouble urinating and didn't know it contained banned diuretics. She said her problem stemmed from depression that
set in after a series of events leading up to the worlds, including a breakup with her fiance and the cancellation of their
wedding, her coach quitting, and the loss of her job as a coach at UCLA. Cosby is a four-time USA outdoor champion (2006,
'08, '09, '11) and set a personal record with a toss of 74.19 meters in June.
