Morgan Uceny

Morgan UcenySport: Track and Field

Nation: United States of America

DOB: March 10, 1985

Hometown: Mammoth Lakes, CA

Career Highlights: Uceny will make her Olympic debut in London, and it could be a memorable one considering she is a favorite to win gold in the 1,500 meters. Uceny was expected by many to win the 2011 world championships, but with just over 500 meters to go, Kenya’s Hellen Obiri tripped and collided with Uceny, causing her to fall to the ground. Uceny finished 10th with a time of 4:19.71 - more than 14 seconds out of first. Weeks after that disappointment, Uceny bounced back to run a personal-best 4:00.06 in the Diamond League Series finale to secure the season title. She ended 2011 with the No. 1 ranking in the 1,500 - the first by an American woman since Mary Decker-Slaney in 1983. Uceny earned a spot in the Olympics by winning the 1,500 at the U.S. trials in 4:04.59. She won the 2011 U.S. outdoor championships with a time of 4:03.91. Uceny, recognized for wearing a large, brightly-colored necklace during her races, was a four-time all-American at Cornell University and set seven school records running the 800.
