Career Highlights: After a 16-year absence, Uptagrafft is set to return to the Olympics and will seek a better showing in London after earning
USA Shooting’s Male Athlete of the Year honors in 2011. The U.S. Army Sgt. 1st class finished tied for 30th in the prone position
at the Atlanta Games back in 1996, but heads into these Olympics with some momentum after collecting a trio of silver medals
during last year’s World Cup competition. A member of the U.S. national team for nearly two decades, Uptagrafft is with the
Army’s Marksmanship Unit based in Fort Benning, Ga., and was deployed to Afghanistan this past summer. He also served in Kuwait
for seven months in 2007. Uptagrafft is married to U.S. pistol shooter Sandra Uptagrafft and graduated summa cum laude from
West Virginia with a degree in aerospace engineering in 1995. He began shooting competitively in 1977, made the U.S. Development
team in 1993 and joined the national team two years later.
