Amanda Weir
Sport: Swimming
Nation: United States of America
DOB: March 11, 1986
Hometown: Lawrenceville, GA
Career Highlights: Having already captured two Olympic silver medals as part of relay teams, Weir will be looking for gold in the 4x100-meter
freestyle relay in London. She was part of the team that set an American record in that event at the 2004 Games, finishing
second behind Australia, and she also helped the 4x100 medley relay team win silver. Weir has won seven medals in relays at
world championships - including gold in the medley relay last year - and she has shown her individual ability with two national
titles in the 100 free (2005, '06) and another in the 50 free ('05). Weir failed to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Games, but
quickly rebounded by placing second in both the 50 and 100 free at 2009 nationals and ensured her return to the Olympics by
finishing fifth in the 100 free at the 2012 trials. She is thinking about a career in interior design when she’s done with
competitive swimming.
