Nicole Barnhart

Nicole BarnhartSport: Soccer

Nation: United States of America

DOB: October 10, 1981

Hometown: Gilbertsville, PA

Career Highlights: A backup goalkeeper on the U.S.'s last two title-winning teams at the 2007 World Cup and 2008 Beijing Olympics, Barnhart is expected to occupy the same role again in London behind Hope Solo. Her most prominent game action for the national team came during qualifying for last summer's World Cup, when Solo was recovering from shoulder surgery. Barnhart started all five games and shut out Italy in two legs of a playoff series to earn the U.S. a berth in the tournament. She ultimately returned to her usual spot on the bench once the World Cup began, watching her teammates finish second as the Americans lost to Japan on penalty kicks. While Solo is the unquestioned starter, Barnhart is considered one of the best backups in the world and shouldn't be troubled if pressed into action due to injury or suspension. Barnhart's quality was on display in the WPS, where she helped FC Gold Pride to the 2010 championship, allowing just 16 goals in 21 games with eight shutouts.
