The native Nebraskan is likely a longshot for a medal, as he’s finished in the top three at only one international competition, a runner-up showing at the Championship of the Americas in 2010. Thompson also came in second at the 2012, 2011 and 2008 national championships, and placed third in 2009. He won a junior national title in 2008, and is a two-time junior Olympic national champion.
