Career Highlights: Frayer finally broke through to qualify for his first Olympic team by upsetting hometown favorite Brent Metcalf in the finals of the Olympic trials. Metcalf, who had never lost at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa - site of the trials - also beat Frayer to earn a spot on the U.S. team at the 2010 world championships. That was part of a string of runner-up finishes for Frayer, who left the sport for a year after the 2010 loss to Metcalf to care for his daughter Khloe, who has Down Syndrome. Frayer also finished second at the trials for the world championships teams in 2006 and 2009, and he finished fourth at the 2008 Olympic trials. He won the U.S. Open in 2010 and the Sunkist Kids International Open in 2011. Frayer was a two-time All-American at the University of Oklahoma, where he was the NCAA runner-up in 2002. He returned to Norman in 2011 and currently serves as an assistant coach at the school. That followed two seasons as an assistant for the University of Wisconsin and a season as the strength and conditioning coach at the University of Iowa, where he worked with Metcalf. Frayer also spent three years as an assistant coach at Harvard following college. He won three Florida state titles in high school with his dad as coach. Frayer’s wife is scheduled to give birth to the couple’s second child during the Olympics.
