Career Highlights: It's already been quite a year for McQuay, who is ready to take his speed from the collegiate circuit to a much bigger stage. As a junior, he won individual NCAA championships in the 400 meters both indoors and outdoors, helping Florida to its third straight indoor team title - then clinching the Gators' first national title outdoors by running the anchor leg for the victorious 4x400 relay. McQuay is one of three male finalists for The Bowerman, which honors the top athlete in collegiate track and field. After all of that, his best performance to date came at the U.S. Olympic trials, where he posted a personal-best time of 44.49 seconds and finished second to LaShawn Merritt, the reigning Olympic gold medalist. "I'm young, but I've stayed hungry and I won't back down for nobody," said McQuay, who won the U.S. outdoor championship last year. No country besides the United States has won Olympic gold in either the 400 or the 4x400 since the Americans boycotted the 1980 Games, and Americans swept the podium in the 400 in both Beijing and Athens. McQuay appears poised to take the baton.
