Marquise Goodwin

Marquise GoodwinSport: Track and Field

Nation: United States of America

DOB: November 19, 1990

Hometown: Austin, TX

Career Highlights: Running through Big 12 secondaries might sound like fun, but that’s Goodwin’s second-best skill. He’s averaged 31 catches in three seasons as a wide receiver at Texas, and he’s now headed to London to compete for gold in the long jump after winning the event at the U.S. Olympic trials. Goodwin didn’t just burst onto the long jump scene after arriving in Austin - he broke the national high school record in 2009, is a two-time NCAA champion and four-time All-American. By finishing first in Eugene, Goodwin became the first collegian to win long jump titles at both the NCAA championships and U.S. Olympic trials since 1960. His trip to London, however, means he’ll miss at least the first few days of fall football practice - the Longhorns open camp Aug. 2, and the long jump qualifying round and finals take place the next two days - but don’t expect Mack Brown to be too discouraged. Goodwin will be back in plenty of time for the opener against Wyoming on Sept. 1, when Texas’ offense might be able to brag about having an Olympic medalist lined up out wide.
