Chelsea Hayes
Sport: Track and Field
Nation: United States of America
DOB: February 9, 1988
Career Highlights: Hayes is a surprise inclusion in the long jump squad for London. An NCAA indoor gold and outdoor bronze hinted at her potential,
but Hayes broke her personal best by nearly a foot and a half in finishing second at the U.S. trials to claim a place on the
team. Having also competed in the 100 and 200 throughout her career, Hayes has a host of college medals to her name but had
never won gold until this season. Her jump at the trials puts her in the top three performers in the world this year, meaning
she has to be considered as a potential podium finisher despite London being her first taste of athletics outside of the U.S.
Russia's Anna Nazarova and Yelena Sokolova will fancy their chances of medaling in London, while American Brittney Reese has
won world titles in the last four seasons and beat Hayes at the trials to ensure she remains the favorite for gold.
