Posted: Mon February 9, 1998 at 1:06 a.m EST Finland 11, Japan 1 -------------------Kirsi Haenninen recorded a hat trick and Riikka Nieminen had two goals and three assists, powering Finland to an 11-1 rout of Japan , which has been thoroughly outplayed in its first two games of the inaugural women's Olympic tournament. Haenninen scored all three of her goals on the power play, becoming the second woman in as many days to pick up a hat trick against Japan . Danielle Goyette performed the feat for Canada , which routed Japan on Sunday, 13-0. Akiko Hatanaka scored the host team's first goal of the tournament on the power play at 8:28 of the third period. Japan has been outshot in its first two games, 113-12. Sanna Lankosaari had a goal and an assist in the first period and Tiia Reima got her second goal of the tournament 7:22 into the second to give Finland (2-0) a 3-0 lead. Haenninen added power-play goals in a 4:54 span before the period ended and the Finns stretched their advantage to 6-0 when Karolina Rantamaki scored unassisted at 5:43 of the third period. Hatanaka scored just over two minutes later, but Finland answered quickly as Nieminen and Sari Krooks scored 46 seconds apart. Haenninen completed her hat trick just 50 seconds after Krooks' goal. Finland , which blanked Sweden , 6-0, on Sunday, has outshot its opponents, 77-21. Finland will next face the United States on Wednesday. Japan 's game is against China , also Wednesday.
