    Italy 5, Austria 2 ------------------

    Stefan Figliuzzi scored twice and Mike Rosati made 20 saves to lead Italy its first and only victory of the preliminary-round, 5-2 over Austria .

    Mario Chitaroni, Roland Ramoser, and Bruno Zarrillo also tallied for Italy (1-2), which finished third in Group A.

    Gerald Ressmann and Wolfgang Kromp notched third-period goals for Austria (0-1-2), which finished at the bottom of the Group A standings.

    Figliuzzi scored at 5:18 and 12:41 of the first period as Italy outshot Austria , 17-7.

    Chitaroni's second goal of the Olympics at 7:49 of the second chased Austria n goaltender Claus Dalpiaz from the nets and Ramoser put Italy up by four goals less than 10 minutes later.

    Ressmann's goal at 3:41 of the third cut Austria 's deficit to 4-1 but Zarrillo put his third goal of the tournament past Reinhard Divis for a four-goal Italian lead at 10:30.

    Kromp closed out the scoring with his first for Austria at 13:27.

    Italy went 1-for-8 on the powerplay while Austria failed to convert in 10 man-advantage situations.
