Posted: Thur February 12, 1998 at 11:02 a.m EST France 5, Italy 1 -----------------Former National Hockey League player Philippe Bozon scored a natural hat trick and Serge Poudrier recorded a power-play goal and two assists as France scored four goals in the third period and defeated Italy, 5-1, in the 11th-place game. Bozon, who spent four seasons in St. Louis before falling out of favor with then-Blues coach Mike Keenan in 1995, opened the scoring with his third goal of the tournament 9:39 into the contest. Poudrier later set up Bozon's second goal, as France took a 2-0 lead 56 seconds into the third period. Bozon then completed the hat trick with his fifth marker in Nagano, giving the French a 3-0 lead with 12:29 to play. Poudrier capped the scoring with an unassisted goal with 3:17 left, and Cristobal Huet stopped 20 shots for France to even his record at 1-1. Herb Brooks, who guided the United States to the gold medal in 1980, guided the French to a 2-2 record. Gates Orlando scored Italy's lone goal on the power play with 6:39 remaining. Italy ended the tournament at 1-3.
