Posted: Sat February 14, 1998 at 1:47 a.m EST Sweden 5, Japan 0 -----------------Erika Holst scored her first two goals of the Games and added an assist and Charlotte Goethesson stopped 15 shots as Sweden defeated Japan, 2-0, in a battle of winless teams concluding the preliminary round. After Gunilla Andersson opened the scoring on the power play with her first goal of the tournament, 10:58 into the game, Holst scored her first with 87 seconds left in the period. Holst scored the game's final goal with 42 seconds to play, as Sweden claimed its first-ever women's Olympic hockey victory. Japan ended an abysmal tournament at 0-5, getting outscored 45-2 and outshot 260-41. Goethesson stopped three shots in the first, five in the second and seven in the third for Sweden in her second start. Swedish goalie Annica Ahlen lost all three of her appearances. Anderson and Holst set up Maria Rooth, as the Swedes gained a 4-0 lead with the extra attacker midway through the second period. Rooth also assisted on Holst's second marker.
