    Sweden 5, Belarus 2 -------------------

Niklas Sundstrom had a goal and an assist and Peter Forsberg and Daniel Alfreddson added two assists apiece as Sweden clinched second place in Group C with a 5-2 victory over Belarus.

Mats Sundin added his team-leading third goal for the Swedes (2-1), who will face Finland in a championship-round quarterfinal game. Tommy Salo stopped 21 shots.

Igor Matushkin and Vladimir Tsyplakov scored power-play goals for Belarus, which finshed last in Group C at 0-3 and will meet Group D winner Russia in a quarterfinal contest. Andrei Mezin stopped 33 of 38 shots and allowed 15 goals in three championship-round games.

Sweden jumped on Belarus for two goals in a 76-second span of the first period. Sundstrom set up Mikael Andersson's goal at the 10:06 mark, and Ulf Dahlen also scored his first goal at the 11:22 mark for a quick 2-0 lead.

Sundstrom made it 3-0 when he scored on Forsberg's first assist of the contest midway through the second period. Belarus got on the board just before the end of the period. Tsyplakov assisted on Matushkin's tally just at the end of a 5-on-3 situation with 41 seconds remaining.

But Sweden re-opened a three-goal lead when Sundin scored with just over 10 minutes to play. Tsyplakov's goal with the man advantage got Belarus within 4-2 at the 13:44 mark, but Alfredsson and Forsberg combined to set up Mikael Renberg's goal less than one minute later to close out the scoring and give Sweden a 5-2 cushion.
