SI dubbed the Mexico City Olympics the "most intriguing of modern Olympic Games." There were all kinds of controversies surrounding the Games -- Mexico City's altitude, negative stereotypes of Mexicans portrayed in the media, protests and riots directed against the local government, gender testing, and a proposed boycott by African-Americans.
