South Korea falls India avoids Pakistan in field hockey semifinalPosted: Monday December 14, 1998 12:45 PM
BANGKOK, Thailand (AP) -- India scored twice in four minutes to upset South Korea 2-1 and finish the preliminary rounds of the Asian Games men's field hockey tournament as the only unbeaten team Monday. The win meant India avoided a semifinal match-up against fierce rival Pakistan. India led 2-0 at the break through Baljit Singh Dhillon and Mukesh Kumar and held on after Keon Wook-Kang got a goal back on 50 minutes. The victory left India with perfect record after four games in Pool B and put it in a semifinal against Japan, which came second in Pool A. Pakistan had three wins and a 1-1 tie against Japan Monday to lead Pool A and will meet South Korea, the defending champion, in the semis.
