MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) -- Overseas athletes who train in Australia in the months leading up to the Sydney Olympics will be subject to the same drug tests as Australian athletes, a drug testing official said Tuesday.

Natalie Howson, chief executive of the Australia Sports Drug Agency (ASDA), said Australia will not be a drug haven for foreign athletes who train here. Without elaborating, she said high risk sports and high risk athletes would be targeted by ASDA.

"We're not a witch-hunting organization, but Australia will not be a safe haven for drug cheats," she said.

Howson said she was disappointed that none of the US$25 million promised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) meeting in February to fight the battle against drugs had been made available.

"We're disappointed because there's been no sign of that money," she said. "We'd like them to put that money where their words are."

She said 70 percent of ASDA's testing will be conducted out of competition.

"There'll be no notice. We can do it anytime, anywhere."
