In 1992, Freeman became the first Aboriginal track and field athlete to represent Australia at an Olympic Games. At the 1996 Olympic Games her time of 48.63 was the sixth fastest ever in the 400 meters. In 1997, she became the first Australian female athlete to win gold at the World Championships. |
