  In August 1999 at the Pan Pacific Championships, the biggest meet of her career, Quann came in second in the 100-meter breaststroke behind world record holder Penny Heyns. On December 2, 1999, Quann broke the American 100-meter breaststroke record at the U.S. Open Swimming Championships, previously set by Amanda Beard at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Currently:
In 1999, Quann was ranked 2nd in the world in the 100-meter breast and 41st in the 200 (up from 10th and 56th in 1998). The night before a competition, Quann holds a stopwatch in her hand and times the race as she visualizes it. She then gives this time to her coach before the race. She says she'll swim within a fraction of a second of the time she visualized.
