Huish allowed to compete Posted: Saturday March 18, 2000 03:16 PM
VENTURA, Calif. (AP) -- A Ventura County judge will allow Justin Huish, an Olympic gold medalist archer charged in a felony drug case, to leave the state and country for competitions over the next few months. Huish, 25, of Simi Valley, Calif., and his roommate, Brian Mastrangelo, pleaded innocent to charges of felony possession of marijuana with intent to sell earlier this week. They are required to appear at a preliminary hearing April 5. Huish has permission to travel to Arizona, Nevada, Washington, D.C., Tennessee, Turkey and Germany for archery events from March to May, according to court records. While he has qualified to represent the United States men's archery team at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, it's uncertain whether or not he'll be allowed to compete. Simi Valley police who searched Huish's home Feb. 15 said they found 4.5 ounces of marijuana, 2.3 grams of hashish oil, a ledger and $23,000 in his bedroom closet. During a Simi Valley police investigation, Huish allegedly sold an undisclosed amount of marijuana to a confidential informant.
