LONDON (AP) -- The entire British team going to the Sydney Olympics will be drug-tested in advance to avoid any doping scandals, the Observer reported Sunday.

The newspaper said that half the British contingent of 350 will be tested by UK Sport before they leave for Australia and the others will provide samples when they arrive.

"The last thing we want is any doping problems over in Australia," British Olympic Association chairman Craig Reedie was quoted as saying, "It's good news that UK Sport is intensifying its program."

The British team will hope to avoid a repeat of what happened at the 1992 Olympics where three athletes were sent home in disgrace having tested positive. Although the tests were in advance of the games, the results weren't known until the athletes got to Barcelona.
