Jenny Thompson made headlines at the 1999 Pan Pacific Championships when she broke the 18-year-old world record in the 100-meter butterfly. A world record-holder in four events, Thompson has won five Olympic gold medals and is tied with Bonnie Blair for most Olympic gold medals by an American woman. She is now training for the 2000 Olympic Games. Check out Thompson's diary every other week on CNNSI.com.

Hi everyone! Things have been getting more and more exciting as I get closer to the Olympic Trials and the Games themselves. I've been especially giddy this week watching the results from the Australian Olympic Trials come up on the web. Some of my competitors have been swimming out of their suits...Susie O'Neil and Petria Thomas, both butterfliers are having the meets of their lives. Petria narrowly missed my world record in the 100 fly and went the third fastest time ever. Anyway, it has been fun to watch and is making me anxious to get the season started!

A couple of weeks ago I went to the annual national team camp in Colorado Springs, CO, the headquarters for the US Olympic Committee. It was great to see some of my Team USA swimming friends and catch up on their lives and how their training is going. The camp was a little nerve racking, though, because in the meetings they talked to us about plans for the Olympics as if we had already made the team, and we don't make the team until August! I didn't want to get jinxed! But it was also motivation to work my butt off for the next three months because Sydney is going to be a lot of fun.

Training has been going very well. I'm probably spending more time training than I ever have in my whole life between nine swim workouts, three weight lifting sessions, three spinning sessions, and two pilates sessions per week. It has been going well though, and I'm pleased with my progress. I have four meets coming up before the trials. The first meet is this weekend in Phoenix, hosted by University of Arizona and ASU. It will be the first time that I wear the Speedo Fastskin suit in a competition, so that should be exciting.

Well, thanks for tuning in and I'll keep you posted on the results of the upcoming meets!

Yours truly,

--- Jenny
