Kristine Lilly is the all-time appearance leader and third all-time leading scorer for the U.S. Women's National Team. The midfielder from Wilton, Conn., was a member of the U.S. teams that won the 1999 World Cup and 1996 Olympic Games. Lilly also played on four national championship teams at the University of North Carolina. Lilly is training for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Right now I'm training for a half-marathon to raise money for the
Leukemia Society (I'm so not a runner)! When training gets tough, and I
don't think I have that extra mile in me, I think of you guys, and how
much you go through everyday to be the best, and somewhere I find the
energy to keep going. Thanks so much for being such an inspiration, and
congratulations on your 200 caps!
Hey Jessica. Glad we can motivate you to do what you do. I have never run a marathon, so I respect what you do as well and the cause you do it for. Good luck.
Do you no what's next for Tisha? Is she planning to play in the
women's professional league?
Hey Debbie. Yes, Tish plans to play in the pro league, and she will be playing in the San Francisco area. She is doing well.
I was wondering -- will your gold 200 shoes be going into the soccer
hall of fame or will you be keeping them?
Hey Katie. My gold shoes are in the hall of fame. I gave them a pair and kept a pair. Adidas made two pair - one for wet grass and molded. The were great.
I've played forward all my life, and just this season my coach decided to try me at midfield. I really enjoy it, so I'd like to stay there. My question is, what is different about midfield and how would you suggest I get better at it?
Hey Alicia. Well the same thing happened to me. I used to play forward and then got switched to midfield and I loved it too. Midfield is different in a way that you are more of a playmaker and have to play offense and defense. You get better the more you play and focus on one thing at a time. But remember you have a responsibility both offensively and defensively.
My question is when are you coming to Ontario or Canada to play
soccer?
Hey Stephanie. I don't think we will be playing in Canada, but we do play Canada in Australia this month.
Does the team use visualization or imagery techniques at all to help
improve performances on the field? If so, how effective is imagery for
you?
Hey Nicole. Yes we do use visualization and imagery. I think imagery is effective, but it is something you have to work on like practice. I have a tape I listen to and one I watch and it helps me to see in my mind the things I do well.
When you first joined the National Team, what player had the
most influence on you and made you feel the most welcome?
When I was first on the team, Carin Gabarra had the biggest influence and made me feel most welcome. She was an amazing player and is an amazing friend.
I was wondering what you future training schedule is at Chula
Vista?
We won't be training in San Diego anymore. We are on the road for the rest of the summer, but we do come back at the end of August.
