Australian triathlete Miles Stewart began competing in triathlons in 1985. Since then he has won a World Championship and World Cup title. The triathlon will make its Olympic debut in Stewart's home country at the 2000 Games, and he will be competing for Australia. Check out Stewart's diary every other week on CNNSI.com

Well the trials are over and now we are waiting for the appeals. This is probably more nerve wracking then waiting for the decision in the first place. Two people are appealing the decision of not being on the team. I can't really blame them for trying. This is the biggest race of most people's lives, so it is worth every effort. And yes I do feel extremely confident that the appeals will be overruled. I get to find out on the 13th of June, if I am definitely going to the Games.

At the moment it is heads down and training very hard. This period will be the major preparation phase for the games. Lots of distance and hard work -- we train six days a week and normally four sessions a day, between six and eight hours. The coach is big on one day off a week, which I have done my whole career, and let me tell you I certainly have no problems with that...

I have been asked quite a few times about the swimsuit issue that has plagued swimming lately and what effect this will have on triathlon and here is my answer. Not much... It is far to hot running in a full suit, that only leaves the pants, which might make a bit of difference, but once again they could get too hot during the run.

In the games our team is sponsored by Nike, so we won't have access to the suits anyway. Also we are wearing wetsuits which will take the advantage away completely.

To answer some questions...

Medallists at the games?
I think it will be Simon Lessing and myself. For a dark horse I would have to go with Robbo.

Do I stick to a specific diet? Not really. I have always believed in everything in moderation, however I do make sure I keep my protein intake up always. A lot more protein than carbohydrate.

What do I think about Olivier Marceau? Great guy and even better triathlete. I trained with Olivier before the worlds for 14 weeks and watched him improve greatly. He had the best form of his life going into the world champs. He was running times on the track that he could only dream about before. He is a very hard trainer and fully deserves to be the World Champ. It couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, and I wish him all the success the world champs brings. I just wish I could have been up there racing with him!

One last note on the "Hi, remember me" letters! Keep them coming. Over the years I've raced thousands of races, each with hundreds of competitors. It's really nice to be reminded that you are all still out there and still follow the sport!

Until next time, bye for now.

-- Miles
