Debbie Ferguson won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympics as part of the Bahamas' 400-meter relay team. She enjoyed a record-setting collegiate career at the University of Georgia where she was a 19-time All-American, a four-time NCAA champion and broke Gwen Torrence's school records in the 100 and 200 meters. Debbie is now training for Sydney, where she plans to compete in the 400 relay, 100 and 200 meters. Check out her diary every two weeks on CNNSI.com.

June 5, 2000
Athens, Ga.

Here I go again!

Off to Europe to officially commence my quest for the gold in Sydney.

My short-term goals are to compete well with the best in the world and to build my confidence in the process.

I have been working on improving my start and I would like to sharpen this. I know that I can get this task done.

My long-term goals are of course to use these meets as a tune up for my Olympic trials which are July 20-22, and of course the Games itself.

My first meet in Europe will be this coming Wednesday, June 7 in Milan, Italy. I will be running the 200 meters.

From there, I'll be in Rethynmo, Greece on the 10th running another 200m. On the 14th, I'll be in Chania, Greece, and then on June 17 I'll be in Lille, France. My remaining schedule is as follows: St. Denis, France, Nurnberg, Germany, and Athens, Greece.

Thanks for all the questions you directed to me, and I want to apologize for not answering them this time. I've been a little busy running errands in preparation for my tour.

I will, however, answer them from Europe.

--Debbie
