Zimmerman, Smart qualify for team

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Felicia Zimmerman beat Erin Smart 15-12 on Friday night to win the Division I Women's Foil title in the U.S. National Fencing Championships.

Zimmerman and Smart qualified for the U.S. Olympic team on the basis of a point scale used by the U.S. Olympic Fencing Committee.

In the semifinals, Zimmerman beat Hana Thompson 15-13 and Smart defeated Emily Cross 15-11.

The other two members of the U.S. Olympic team in the women's foil are Iris Zimmerman and Ann Marsh.

In the Division I Men's Epee, Chris O'Laughlin beat Rashaun Greenhouse 15-14. In the semifinals, O'Laughlin beat John O'Neil 15-10 and Greenhouse edged Michael Fieldshoe 15-13.

All four men's semifinalists qualified for the Olympic team.
