Debbie Ferguson won a silver medal at the 1996 Olympics as part of the Bahamas' 400-meter relay team. She enjoyed a record-setting collegiate career at the University of Georgia where she was a 19-time All-American, a four-time NCAA champion and broke Gwen Torrence's school records in the 100 and 200 meters. Debbie is now training for Sydney, where she plans to compete in the 400 relay, 100 and 200 meters. Check out her diary every two weeks on CNNSI.com.

August 24, 2000

Hi again to everyone. It has been weeks since we last spoke. I pray and hope that everyone is in the best of health.

Well, since the Bahamian trials, I have been traveling and will continue to do so until after the Olympics in Sydney. Patience! Patience!

As for the Bahamian trials, I placed second in the 100 meters in a time of 10.96 seconds, and first the 200 meters in 22.46. I am not pleased with either, but will make the best of it, and make it a trial and success cover story.

I am very pleased with my 100-meter race for the year. I am more consistent than ever before. I have run consistently between 11.01 and 11.15. Not great, however, not bad for progress.

Anyway, I pray for fortitude, faith, and prudence. Well, as the saying goes "Where there is nothing to lose by trying and everything to gain if successful, by all means try!" I will get it done, and it starts with me.

Thanks for your support and I appreciate each and every one of you.

--The Debster
