2000 Sydney Olympics cycling competition
Traveling from:
Austin, Texas
Personal:
Age: 28

Other cyclists competing in the Sydney Games -- in both the individual time trial and road race -- will undoubtedly be a bit psyched out to see Armstrong pedal up to the starting line. Why? Armstrong is coming off his second consecutive dominating victory in the Tour de France, cycling's most prestigious event. In this year's Tour, he won the Stage 19 time trial with the second fastest average speed on record[53.986 kilometers an hour]. In 1996, Armstrong was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The disease had spread to other areas of his body, but after aggressive treatments he was declared cancer-free by October 1997.

Achievements:
2000 Tour de France, champion
1999 Tour de France, champion
1998 Tour of Luxembourg, champion
1998 World Championships, road race and time trial, 4th
1997 Did not compete
1996 Tour Du Pont, champion
1996 Summer Olympics, time trial, 6th; road race, 12th
1997 National Indoor Championships, 1st (60-meters)
1996 Olympic Games, 1st (sprint); 4th (hurdles)
1995 Tour Du Pont, champion
1994 Tour Du Pont, 2nd
1993 World Championships, road race, 1st
1993 U.S. Road Race Championships, 1st
1993 OTour Du Pont, 2nd
1992 Summer Olympics, road race, 14th
Currently:

In late August, Armstrong (with partner Vyacheslav Ekimov) won the Grand Prix Eddy Merckx time trial, a tune-up for the Olympic competition.
