Since becoming partners in May 1998, the Brazilian beach volleyball tandem of Jose Loiola and Emanuel Rego has been the most dominant teams in the world. In 1999, the pair captured their first world title and concluded the season atop the FIVB world rankings. Once rivals, Loiola and Emanuel began training together in hopes of being among the 24 beach volleyball pairs to participate at the 2000 Sydney Games. They were the first team to qualify. Loiola will check in from Sydney on CNNSI.com.

What have you been doing to ready yourself for the Olympics?

I have continued my normal routine which is training for volleyball in the morning on the beach and weights and cardio workouts in the afternoon at the gym.

Have you been to the Bondi Beach venue? What do you think of controversy that is surrounding the venue?

I have never been to Bondi Beach, though I hear it is a beautiful beach. As far as the controversy surrounding the construction site, I don't know the full extent all the issues.

With temperatures supposed to peak in the 70s, will that affect your game?

I think at this point I do not care what the weather will be like because I believe that I have prepared for anything.

What are your plans for the Opening Ceremonies? Are you looking forward to it?

Yes, I have decided to walk during the Opening Ceremonies because I do not have to play the following day, and one does not have this opportunity very often.

Where are you staying during the Olympics? Will your family be with you?

I am staying at a hotel near the venue with my partner. My two young daughters are staying at home. My wife will be in Bondi at a separate lodging.

Have you checked out anything in Sydney -- or anywhere else in Australia -- before the Games begin?

I have been reading up on Sydney through the internet but that is about it. This will be my first trip to Australia, and I am really looking forward to it.
