Nothing compares to Manhattan Beach
Since becoming partners in May 1998, the Brazilian beach volleyball tandem of Jose Loiola and Emanuel Rego has been the most dominant teams in the world. In 1999, the pair captured their first world title and concluded the season atop the FIVB world rankings. Once rivals, Loiola and Emanuel began training together in hopes of being among the 24 beach volleyball pairs to participate at the 2000 Sydney Games. They were the first team to qualify. Did you go to the Opening Ceremonies? I think it was a lot of fun and a great experience. Especially for an athlete like myself which has never done anything like this before. It is a moment I will never forget! What's your schedule like now? Outside of training, I simply return to my hotel room and focus on what is ahead for me. I have not done real sightseeing or tourist things. That's not why I am here. Are there any events you would like to see?Yes, I would like to attend other events just as long as they don't conflict with my event. Possibly indoor volleyball, Dream Team games or track and field. What are your thoughts on Bondi Beach? It has its similarities to Manhattan Beach; temperature, beach atmosphere, surf shops and healthy restaurants. But really, nothing compares to Manhattan Beach. What's your upcoming schedule?I think I am going to do just what I have been doing. Normal routine of sleep well, eat well, train hard and focus. It works for me.
