British cyclist Jason Queally won two medals at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, winning the one kilometre time trial and finishing second in the Olympic sprint. Queally shared his Olympic experience with CNNSI.com.

October 24, 2000
Chorley, Great Britain

Hello to everyone who has been following the CNNSI.com Olympic diaries. I hope you are all well and life has been treating you kindly.

I am sorry for not keeping up to date with the diary but life has been pretty hectic since the Olympics. I managed to win two medals by some pure fluke. Gold in the kilometre time trial and silver in the Olympic sprint. I even managed to break the Olympic record in the process...not bad for farm boy (the French news papers for some reason have decided I am a farmer??).

Anyway, since those two glorious days my life has been forever changed, and I hope for the best. I have been in constant demand with TV, radio and newspapers. It's pretty hard dealing with it all at the moment as I am preparing for the world championships which are being held in Manchester, England in two weeks time. Having the world championships so close to the Olympic Games I think is a silly idea. Nearly everyone I have spoken to from different teams are not looking forward to the event. We all need a good rest after the highs and lows of the Olympic Games.

I met with the Queen yesterday at the opening of an aquatic centre in Manchester. We spoke of the Olympics and about the velodrome in Manchester. A very nice lady.

I have to go now. It's been a real pleasure sharing some of my life experiences with you all over the past year.

May I wish you all the happiness and good luck you deserve.

-- Jason
