Olympic boxing champ killed

ALMATY, Kazakstan (AP) -- Olympic boxing champion Bekzat Sattarkhanov was killed in a New Year's Eve car accident, police said. He was 20 years old.

Sattarkhanov was driving to Turkestan in southern Kazakstan for a New Year's Eve celebration when the accident occurred, said police in the Shumkent region, some 400 miles from Almaty.

Two other people in the car were injured, the police department said. No further details were available.

Sattarkhanov was one of the standout boxers of the Sydney Olympics. He beat Ricardo "Rocky" Juarez of the United States to win the gold medal in the 125-pound class.
